This young stallion makes a stunning impression
with his brilliant red chestnut coat, flaxen mane and tail, and large blanket with
spots. In spite of his limited showing and late start as a result of being a May
foal, he already stands over 16.1 hands tall,
earned his open halter ROM, Non-Pro halter ROM and Most Colorful ROM. In
addition, he was a Year-End Top Ten Finalist for
Open Two Year Old Stallions for 2006 and Open Three Year Old Stallions for 2007. Even better that his impressive size, and
incredible good looks (we feel he is the spitting image of his sire, the late
Maids Dream), is his sweet disposition that endears everyone to him. He's got it
all in one package. Look for this young stallion to make his mark in the ApHC with his
production as a sire. His first foal crop of 10 has arrived
in 2008 and all have received regular registrations with a complete variety in
coat patterns- a leopard, 2 snowcaps, blankets, snowflakes and roans! One foal
to date to show- The Limited Edition- is undefeated in his age and sex division,
Went Reserve Grand Champion at halter as late Feb. weanling and has earned
national points in Open Halter, Non-Pro Halter, Open Most Colorful and Non-Pro
Most Colorful.

PEDIGREE
When we lost our beloved National and World Champion
stallion, "J.W." (Maid For Show), we also lost the
incredible dream for our future that we had built with him. Though we are
devastated by his loss, we remain dedicated to breeding
the Appaloosa horse...specifically the elusive leopard. We have
come to realize we need to move forward and to build a new dream.
I believe everything happens for a reason. Perhaps we found our reason.
Let me share with you a story of tragedy and triumph.
It's a story of how three breeds of horses came together to make a "phenomenal"
colt and what we believe to be a phenomenal future impact on our breed.
Years ago, John and I tried to buy what
we felt was the "best" leopard Appaloosa mare in our
industry, Judy Parlier's "Spectravision." This was a mare that Judy
had shown since she was a yearling, and through that association Judy
Kashary and nationally known trainer, Dave Parlier, were brought together and
eventually married. Judy tells me with a laugh that Dave fell in love with
Spectravision first...THEN her. At three years old and after winning 3 Bronze
Medallions and her National Championship, Spectravision was bred and
retired from the show ring. Judy states that the pregnancy was
difficult. Spectravision ended up needing a Caesarian section and losing
her foal. Adding more tragedy, during the procedure they discovered the
mare had multiple adhesions in her abdomen. Due to the medical
condition, Judy knew Spectravision would be unable to physically
carry a baby and it was very unlikely they could ever get an embryo
from her. Of course, as a broodmare, Spectravision was then no good
to us but we never forgot this beautiful mare. Judy never gave up hope on
the mare she loved, however. After years of wishing and begging to her
vet, Dr. David Hartman of Whitesboro, TX, he finally agreed to attempt an
embryo transfer or oocyte transfer (experimental procedure) on Spectravision
in hopes of making Judy's dream come true. When Judy told us
she was "going for broke" in her attempt for the
chance at a show filly by her mare, we all knew that it was a long shot. Judy
was persistent and optimistic. She made arrangements to proceed and
decided to take the further gamble of breeding her to a Quarter Horse! After
careful research she chose a stallion that she felt was the absolute best
cross for her mare possible. This stallion was not just ANY Quarter
Horse...this was the Four Time AQHA World Champion, Multiple AQHA
World champion producer, and Congress Grand Champion stallion "Call
Me Phenomenal." But this was a stallion that also happened to
be hypp N/H. Judy states "We were really in awe of the
'Call Me Phenomenal' horse and had admired him from the time he was a baby. We
knew the risk - the worst case scenario was a solid N/H stud colt. The best
case scenario was a colored N/N filly." She comments, "I
became a gambler!!" She set up the stallion's arrangements with the
outstanding stallion manager, Danny Salsman. Much to everyone's surprise, they
were able to flush an embryo on the first try. Judy states, "Everyone
here and at the clinic was cheering!" Just as miraculously and
against tremendous odds, the embryo took in of all things....a loud overo PAINT
recipient mare! The pregnancy was not without it's problems.
The recipient mare had serious uterine issues and needed weeks of antibiotics.
Further, she also needed progesterone supplementation throughout the pregnancy
in order to successfully carry the foal. Judy was on pins and needles
through out the pregnancy. As the pregnancy progressed, everyone laughed
at even the possibility of seeing an appaloosa colored foal born to the wrong
kind of spots!
Meanwhile...at Sawyer Creek, John and I made the
decision to sell our beloved black leopard stallion, Hi Tech Cowboy, at
the World Sale and our junior few spot stallion, Clear Vision, to "go
for broke" ourselves. We had arranged to purchase "Maid for
Show" from the Hall of Fame breeder, Jim Wild, of the Flying W Ranch.
Though Maid for Show, or J.W. as we affectionately called him, was not a
leopard, he made our dream of owning a National and World Champion
stallion for our breeding program come true! J.W. exceeded all our
expectations. Not only was he an exceptional looking horse, but he had
that disposition that endeared everyone to him. We thought we
would go into our old age with J.W. as he was the epitome of what we felt a
breeding stallion should be- excellent conformation, keen athletic ability,
superior pedigree, loud color and superb disposition. We could easily
picture sitting on our rocking chairs on the porch watching him
in the corral retire along with us. Unfortunately that was not the
case. About the same time our just turned 4 yr. old stallion died
tragically of an unexpected heart attack and our dreams with him...what
happens? Against the most incredible odds every step of the way, Judy's
paint recipient mare gives birth to Spectravision's loud leopard COLT! Could
this be fate?
Judy states, "After months of waiting impatiently
and LOTS of stress, on February 9, 2006 our little miracle was born-a red
LEOPARD stud colt. We were ecstatic! Not only did he have great
color, he was a grand looking little guy and quickly became the 'talk of the
town'. We anxiously awaited the results of his HYPP test and once
again, luck was with us-it came back N/N!! Wow-I had big dreams for
him!" Needless to say, he is a phenomenon.
Though grief stricken, John and I immediately noticed how truly
special this colt was. J.W. would be a tough act to follow and this
colt was the one to fit the bill. He had the most incredible
pedigree- unlike anything currently in our industry. Not only was his
lineage loaded with World and National Champions but they were PROVEN
producers of World and National Champions with bloodline niches that were
considered "golden." He is the ONLY
Appaloosa offspring of the undefeated "Call Me Phenomenal." He is
only offspring of the
great 3X Bronze Medallion winning mare Spectravision. In addition, he also
had the elusive and difficult to produce loud leopard coat pattern that Sawyer
Creek strives for. It didn't take us long to see that this
very special colt had all the qualities we sought after and could take over
the progression of our program to where J.W. left off. We quickly
decided this colt was meant to be at Sawyer Creek. Judy comments about
their decision to sell the colt she never thought she'd part with,
"After much deliberation, we decided they could offer him a better
chance of influencing the Appaloosa breed than we could since we don't
routinely breed and don't stand stallions at this facility. I knew he
would have the best of care and be able to use his potential to the best of
his ability in their program and a deal was struck. We are thrilled
for them and am anxious to watch him grow, mature and see the next
generation of great appaloosa leopards develop!" By selling us
this incredible colt Judy will have the money to challenge the odds
again for her filly.
The rest is up to fate. Our goal is to breed
and produce the highest quality Appaloosas, with emphasis on leopards. In
order to better our breed we now have purchased this "phenomenal
boy" for our future stallion. It's time for Sawyer Creek to build
an exciting new dream! Come along for the ride. Phenomenal's story has
been featured in the book The
Legendary Appaloosa.
We have test bred Phenomenal to three mares
for foals in 2009. We can hardly wait to see what he produces!
